I like gargoyles and I suppose there's no more classic source of gargoyles than the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, France — not that you can tell this is Notre Dame, Paris, or France. A certain amount of ambiguity is necessary because the original photo has a large sign in it which cannot be cropped out or ignored. All that can be done is edit the photo so that the background becomes unrecognizable and the gargoyle in the foreground dominates.

The iPhone photography app used here is picfx with the filter "Plastic and Wood". While it creates a very strong distressed effect, I'm not sure I really understand where the "plastic" or the "wood" come in. I suppose I can see where an image painted on wood might create some of this effect after it's become old and the wood is drying out, but the "plastic" part is completely beyond me right now.
